McDonald
MacDonald
The Clan Donald is of very ancient origin and the various
branches of the clan are intricately interwoven.
The descent of Clan Donald is from Somerled, Regulus of the Isles who expunged the Western Isles of the Norse invaders during the 12th century A.D.
Somerled was killed at Renfrew in 1164, leaving three sons.
The second son, Reginald, Lord of the Isles, succeeded Somerled, Reginald died in 1207 and, was himself succeeded by his eldest son, Donald "de Isla", from whom the Clan Donald takes its name.
As Lords of the Isles the Clan Donald were foremost amongst the Highland clans, their chief until 1493 ranking as an Island Sovereign.
The genealogy of our McDonald ancestors and family

The marriage record of Archibald McDONALD and Mary McQUEEN
in 1859 indicates that both of Archibald's parents were deceased

The notation "deceased" not following their names on the record it
would also seem to indicate that both of Mary's parents were still living
although no trace of either of them has been discovered to date.
